1 ¼ C. softened butter
¼ C. shortening
1 ¼ C. sugar
1 ¼ C. brown sugar
1 T. vanilla
2 eggs
4 ½ C. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
2 bags chips of your choice

Beat butter, shortening, sugars, vanilla, and eggs in a large bowl on medium speed. Mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt on low speed. The dough will be stiff. Stir in the chips. Space the dough about two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet or one lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10-11 minutes at 375 degrees. Cookies should be a light brown and the centers should be soft. Cool 1-2 minutes and then place on a wire rack.

This cookie dough tastes great with any kind of chips. This recipe makes about 9 dozen cookies. It can easily be divided up into batches for different chips. When my kids were young, they loved Ande’s mint chips with this cookie dough.
