2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 8-oz. package chopped dates
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, oats, soda, salt and brown sugar. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Press half of mixture into an ungreased 13 X 9 X 2 inch baking pan. Combine dates, 1 cup sugar, and water in a medium saucepan; cook over low heat until the sugar dissolves and dates are soft. Mixture should be thick and mushy. Spread mixture evenly over dough in pan. Cover with the remaining oats mixture. Bake at 325º for 40 minutes or until lightly browned. Cut into bars while warm.
