16 (1 inch thick) slices day-old French bread or Texas Toast style bread
5 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. salt
½ cup chopped pecans

Topping:

4 TBSP butter, melted
3 TBSP dark brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
pinch salt

OPTIONAL TOPPINGS FOR SERVING:

Fresh blueberries/raspberries/strawberries
Dried cranberries
Powdered sugar
Maple syrup
Whipped cream

Arrange a layer of bread in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish.

In a bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, salt. Pour a small amount of mixture on bread in pan. Sprinkle on some pecans. Continue to layer bread, egg mixture and pecans.

Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.

Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350º. Combine topping butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Drizzle this over top. Bake, uncovered 35-40 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes.

Add any optional toppings desired at time of serving.
