3 - 4 fresh yellow crookneck squash
1 package of American cheese slices
Milk
Butter
Salt and pepper

Wash squash and slice into circles. Put a layer of squash in a casserole dish and season with salt and pepper. Top with globs of butter and a layer of American Cheese slices. Continue layering this until all is used up and you end with a layer of cheese. Add milk to about 1" from the bottom. If it starts to look too dry, add more milk. Bake in 350º oven until squash is tender and casserole is bubbly.

Aunt Bootsie made this casserole and it was my favorite thing when I spent summers with her in Coyanosa, Texas. She always had a lot of fresh vegetables in the summer because Uncle Preston was a fantastic gardener.
