Adjusted for high altitude:

1 cup sugar minus 2 tbsp.
3 tbsp cocoa
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cup cold water
5 tbsp salad oil
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla

Frosting (if desired)

1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 tbsp. melted butter
2 tbsp. cream or evaporated milk
1 pinch salt

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients together into a ungreased 8x8 baking pan. Make 3 holes in dry ingredients. Put vinegar in 1 hole, oil in 1 hole, and vanilla in 1 hole. Pour cold water over all and stir with a fork until moistened. Do not beat. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
Can also mix in a bowl but do not beat.

Frosting: (optional) I serve unfrosted with ice cream or whipped cream
Mix together and stir until smooth.
