4 egg yolks
1 ½ c sugar
½ c boiling water
1 ½ c cake flour
¼ t salt
1 t baking powder
1 t vanilla
4 stiff beaten egg whites

For stirred custard:
4 slightly beaten eggs
½ c sugar
¼ t salt
4 c milk, scalded (not boiling)
½ t vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg yolks until very thick
Gradually add sugar and continue beating
Add water
Mix well, and add flour sifted with salt and baking powder
Mix until smooth, and add vanilla
Fold in egg whites
Bake in ungreased tube pan in slow oven at 325˚F for 1 hour
Invert pan to cool and serve plain or frosted

For custard:
Combine eggs, sugar, and salt
Gradually stir in hot milk (stir constantly!!)
Add vanilla, and chill rapidly
