1/2 c. sugar
1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
1 can (13 oz.) evaporated milk
1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Caramelize sugar in saucepan over low heat and pour into a 9-inch cake pan, spreading evenly. Set cake in roasting pan.

In blender or food processor, combine other ingredients. Carefully pour into prepared cake pan. Add about 1/2 inch of water to roasting pan.

Bake in preheated 350º oven 55-60 minutes.

Cool; then chill. To serve, place bottom of pan in a little bit of cool water to melt sugar. Loosen edges of flan with knife. Invert onto serving plate. Sprinkle with almonds if desired.
