1 cup shortening
2 cups raisins
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups boiling water
1 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
pinch salt
3 1/3 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F.

Mix shortening through salt. Stir for 2 minutes. Let cool.

Add 2 tsp. baking soda to a small amount of warm water, stir until dissolved, and add to the cooled mixture. Stir in flour 1 cup at a time.

Bake in 9x13 or two 9" round cake pans for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Frost with chocolate frosting.

O.B. cake came from a cook book put out by Oklahoma's Best Flour company in around 1910. It was a family favorite passed down from Jeff's grandma, Esther Johnson.
