1/2 cup butter
1-1/3 cups brown sugar
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
2/3 cup Dutch processed cocoa powder
1-1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream the butter, sugar, baking powder, vanilla and salt. Add the eggs, beating until smooth. Stir in the cocoa powder, then the flour; the dough will be stiff. Mix in the chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoons onto the parchment lined sheet.

Bake at 350F for 12 minutes. They will look not-quite-done in the center. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes on the sheet. Gently squeeze and shape the cookies into uneven balls, to resemble chunks of coal. Cool completely on racks.
