3 C. Sifted flour
3 C. Sugar
1 C. Shortening
1 C. Buttermilk
6 Eggs, separated
1/2 t. Salt
1/4 t. Baking Soda
1 t. Lemon extract
2 t. Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Blend sugar and shortening until creamed. Add egg yolks, one at a time. Add lemon extract and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with buttermilk to the creamed mixture. Beat egg whites stiff and fold into batter. Pour into greased and floured tube pan or two loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until done. (Test with a toothpick).
