Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 inch knob of ginger
2-3 inch piece of turmeric root or substitute 2 tsp turmeric powder
1-2 dashes of cayenne (or you could juice 1/2 a habanero or jalapeño pepper)
4 lemons (3 for juicing and 1 for slicing as a garnish)
3 droppers vanilla stevia
2 quarts water

Directions:
Directions:
In a juicer, juice your ginger root, turmeric, and 3 lemons.

In a large pitcher add your juice to about 2 quarts of water, a couple droppers of vanilla stevia to taste, a couple dashes of cayenne and your thinly cut lemon slices.

Mix well with a wooden spoon and adjust flavors to taste.

Let sit for about 10 mins before serving to let the flavors blend. Will last about 5 days in the fridge.

You can enjoy at room temperature or over ice. This tea is sweet, tangy and very spicy! Be ready, it’s got some serious kick!! But it always helps me “get back to normal” after travelling. Travelers tend to get puffy and retain water when they travel and this tea helps flush out the lymphatic system and reduce swelling.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
The ingredients in this tea have been reported to possess a whole list of powerful health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, lymph system cleanser, liver health support – and it should also be of benefit to anyone suffering from a cold or flu.

It’s actually pretty simple… The recipe calls for Ginger, turmeric, cayenne, lemons and perhaps a little vanilla Stevia for sweetness. The link to the full recipe is at the foot of this article, under my commentary as per usual.

Ginger root has had a history of traditional medicinal use in addition to its long history of use in the kitchen. One of its active components, gingerol, has in recent times been found by scientific studies to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal, pain relieving and antihistaminic properties. Ginger is also considered beneficial in cases of nausea, stomach upsets, arthritis and is even thought to have anti-cancer properties.
Turmeric is another root that is from a plant species closely related to Ginger. It is also similar with regard to its great popularity in both cuisine and traditional remedies. Turmeric is thought to be a natural pain reliever, and its most significant active component, curcumin, is associated with numerous health benefits – from colds and flu through to liver health, cardiovascular support and stomach ulcers. Curcumin has also been found to inhibit the growth of prostate, breast and other cancer cells in lab studies. turmeric is enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity in alternative health circles due to the recent astounding scientific discoveries regarding its healing potential.

The other ingredients are also associated with a whole host of health benefits. We also have a great full-length article on lemon essential oil, which gives much information about the numerous health benefits associated with lemons.
