2 cups brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 lb orange slices(the sugar candy ones), diced
3/1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

This is a cookie you must let rest overnight before baking.
Cream shortening, butter and sugar together and then add eggs, one at a time. Continue to add the remaining ingredients. Mix well and make a roll, inch in diameter, Let sit overnight in refrigerator or place in freezer(wrapped well in plastic wrap).
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350ºF and slice into thin slices. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet pan and bake for about 15 minutes. Be careful not to burn as these are very thin.

This is a wonderful crisp and chewy cookie that we always made for holidays. The addition of those orange slices makes them unique. My note from Mom says "Very good cookie and nice to bake while the coffee perks".
