1 cups dates, chopped (in a grinder)
1/2 cup sugar
lemon rind of one lemon
lemon juice of one lemon
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
4 cups flour
3/4 cup salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 teaspoons eggs
1/2 cup nuts

Mix water, dates, sugar, rind, juice, and cook until thick. Add 1/2 cup nuts, chopped finely. Cool. Mix other ingredients to make cookies.

There are no other known instructions; I would expect that you should roll out the dough, spread the filling on it, roll up and slice in 1/4 inch slices. Bake at 375'F for 9-11 minutes or until brown on the bottom.
