6-7cooked sweet potatoes
2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c water
1/2 c butter
1 t salt
dash of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves
vanilla to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Peel and slice sweet potatoes into a 9"X 13" greased baking dish
Make a syrup of the brown sugar, water, butter, salt and spices. Bring all to a boil and cook until it slightly coats a spoon.
Pour over potatoes, saving some to baste with while baking.
Bake at 350º for about 45 minutes, basting occasionally.
Potatoes can be cooked the day before. Slice into the dish, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature and pour hot syrup over. Bake

Story:: My mother Evelyn (French) Burdsall always made the candied sweet potatoes. They were the GREATEST! I never did get the recipe that was in her head. She would always say, "I'll write it down later". Moms at that time just made things. Over the years I finally decided I would not do that to the next generation, so here is my written version.
