2/3 C soft butter or margarine
1/2 C light brown sugar
2 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 egg
3/4 C molasses
3 C flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
Raisins

Small dish of white sugar


Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground ginger, cinnamon, light brown sugar, salt, soft butter or margarine and ground cloves. Mix well. Then beat the batter until it is light and fluffy.
Add egg. Beat again
Add molasses. Beat again.
Add flour, baking soda and baking powder. Mix slowly so you don't have flour all over.

Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat oven to 375º. Grease baking sheet with margarine. Take small amount of dough and roll into a ball about the size of a walnut.
Roll each ball in the bowl of sugar.
Place the balls on cookie sheet and flatten ball with a flat bottomed glass.
Press 3 raisins onto cookie to form face.

Bake 8-10 minutes or until well done.
