3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. dark molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Soften shortening, add sugar, molasses, egg and beat well. Sift flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt, and add to first mixture. Chill.
Form into balls, roll in sugar, and place on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes.

Cookies will flatten and "crack" while baking. Do not over cook. A great "not too sweet" cookie.
