1 medium head red cabbage
1 tart apple
2 T. butter or margarine (I used bacon drippings)
1 bay leaf (I used 2)
2 juniper berries (did not use)
Salt and pepper
1/4 c. dry white wine
2 T. vinegar (I doubled the wine and vinegar)
1 t. sugar
1 medium onion
Cooked bacon (I added onion and bacon)

Wash and shred cabbage. Peel, core and slice apple. Melt butter and add cabbage and apple, mixing well. Add bay leaf, juniper berries and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes. Add wine, vinegar, and sugar and mix well. Cook for 30 minutes to 1 hour longer.
Note: I cooked bacon until crisp and then cooked cabbage in the bacon drippings. I then put everything in a slow cooker and cooked for about 2 hours the first day.
The next day I cooked it in the slow cooker again for a couple of hours and added more of wine and vinegar.
