cake batter:
2/3 c. butter, melted
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
2 c. self-rising flour (sifted)
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

icing:
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
2/3 c. milk
1/4 lb. butter
1 tsp vanilla flavoring

Directions:
Directions:
To make cake batter: Mix all ingredients. Divide evenly into 4 cake pans that have been sprayed with Joy. Bake about 20 minutes, or until cake springs back when touched. Let cool.

For icing:
Stir sugar and cocoa together in saucepan. Add milk. Stir and allow to get hot. Add vanilla & butter. Boil for 4 minutes. Ice cake layers.

My mother, Mary Alma Beasley, use to make this cake for my children. It was their favorite cake that she made. She loved baking it for them. She only had 2 cake pans, so after she baked the 2 layers, she would use a long-bladed knife to split the 2 cakes layers to make 4 layers.
