1 c. Chopped dates
Pour 2/3 c. Hot water over and let stand

Combine together:
1-2/3 c. Flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. b. powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. chopped nuts, if desired

Mix:
2/3 c. butter
1c. br. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Frosting:
1-1/2 c. icing sugar
1 tsp. instant coffee
1/8 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter or soft margarine
2 tbsp. cream
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Stir flour mixture and date mixture alternately into the butter mixture. Spread in greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350* for 20-25 mins.

Spread icing on cooled squares.

Generally double recipe and bake in 13x17 in. Jelly roll pan.
Freezes well, layer with wax paper to prevent from sticking.
