2 cups shortening
1/2 cups brown sugar packed
1 1/2 cup sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp.. hot water
3 cups flour
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. salt
6 cups oatmeal
1 cup nuts
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening and sugars; add eggs and mix well; dissolve soda in hot water; add to mixture; add flour, salt, oatmeal and vanilla; mix thoroughly; add chocolate chips and nuts; drop by tsp. or use a cookie scoop on an ungreased cookie sheet; Bake 350º F. for 12 minutes.

This recipe was found by Barbara in an VFW Auxiliary cookbook. It is the best recipe and make a lot of cookies. Great for lunches for work and school and for snacks after school or work.
