1 cup or more high grade wheat with bran removed. Wash wheat. Place in pot, cover with hot boiling water and soak overnight. Next day simmer wheat, covered in the same water for 6 hour's. stirring occasionally. Add salt before cooking is completed, set aside.

Scald poppy seed and drain. Soak for 30 minutes in lukewarm water. Brain well and grid fine. Boil 1 part honey to 2 parts water. Cool. Combine syrup with wheat to make medium thin mixture. Stir in poppy seed and chopped walnuts (if desired). Serve warm or chilled

This is the ritual first dish that is served at Christmas Eve as of the 12 dishes. The wheat represents the staff of life; the honey represents the Spirit of Christ.
