1/4 cup liquid shortening
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup coarsely chopped nutmeats

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º. Blend oil and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Combine all ingredients and stir. Add vanilla and nuts. Spread in an oiled 8"x8"x2" pan. Bake about 30 minutes. Remove from oven, cool 5 minutes. Cut into squares, remove from pan to cool (makes 16 squares).
