2 sticks butter, softened (real butter)
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour

Directions:
Cream butter and gradually add sugar-beating well. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating till blended. Add vanilla, beating well. Combine flour, soda, salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, beating at low speed till blended after each addition. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap-chill one hour. Roll 1/2 of dough to 1/4 inch thickness on floured surface. Cut out cookies with 2 1/2 inch round cutter, place 1 inch apart on parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake 350º for 10 to 12 minutes or till edges begin to brown. Let stand on wire racks to cool. Repeat for second half of dough.
