1 c milk
1 c sugar
1/4 c shortening
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 c mashed potatoes
1 egg
1/4 tsp nutmeg
4 1/2 c flour
1 pkg or eqivilent of dry yeast mixed with 1/4 c warm water

Directions:
Directions:
Scald milk (bring it to point of boiling then remove from heat). Add sugar, shortening, salt and mashed potatoes.

Cool the mixture till lukewarm.

Add softened yeast to the milk and potato mixture with slightly beaten egg and nutmeg. Add flour a little at a time till dough is workable.

Knead well and let rise in a warm place till double in bulk.

Punch down knead slightly and roll to 1/2 inch thickness.

Cut into doughnuts and place on a floured towel. Cover and let rise till doubled.

Fry in shortening at about 350º. Drain on paper towels.

Glaze by dipping the doughnuts into a mixture of 1 1/2c confectioners sugar mixed with 1/4 c warm water and 1/4 tsp vanilla.
