3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
5 cups cored, sliced and pared apples (the tarter the apple the better the cobbler)
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp. butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1/2 cup milk

Heat oven to 400º
Combine 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tbsp. flour, cinnamon and 1/2 tsp. salt. Mix with apples and place in 1 1/2 quart shallow baking dish. Sprinkle water over apples; dot with butter and cover with foil bake for 15 min.

Sift 1 cup flour, 1 tbsp. sugar, baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt together; cut in shortening and stir in milk. Drop by spoonfuls onto hot apples. Return to oven uncovered for 25-30 min or until topping is browned and apples are tender.

Serve warm with cream or ice cream if desired.
