4 cup sliced, pared, and cored baking apples (Granny Smith works well should be close to 6 medium apples)
2/3 to 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
1/2 cup flour or whole grain crackers
1/2 cup rolled oats
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3.4 nutmeg
1/3 cup soft butter

Preheat oven to 375º
Bake for 30-35 minutes

Place sliced apples in greased 8x8x2 inch pan (can use 10x6x1 1/2 inch or 1 1/2 quart baking dish)

Blend remaining ingredients until mixture is crumbly. Spread over apples and bake until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.

Serve warm with ice cream if you wish.

Grandma Clara Ready made this recipe and passed it down to her daughters. It is delicious especially when served warm with vanilla ice cream on top. The melted ice cream adds additional favor to this dessert.
