1/2 c. Olive Oil
1 tbsp. chopped garlic
1 tbsp. chopped parsley
1 tbsp. chopped celery
1 tbsp. chopped green onion
2 cups solid pack tomatoes
1 cup tomato sauce
1 tbsp. salt
Pepper to taste
1 tbsp. paprika
1/2 cup sherry wine
3 cups water
A small sprig of fresh basilico

Newspaper clipping version:
1/2 cup olive oil
2 onions chopped
1 large green pepper chopped
5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
1 tsp. dried sweet basil
1 large can Italian-style tomatoes
2 - 8oz cans tomato sauce
1 tsp. salt
2 cups dry white wine or dry sherry

Directions:
Directions:
Braise onion, garlic, parsley, celery and bell pepper in oil until a golden brown. Add tomatoes and tomato sauce, slat, black pepper, paprika and sherry wine. Cook 15 minutes. Add water. Cook slowly one hour. This amount of sauce will serve six persons. Any fresh or shell fish may be used.



Another version is below:

Saute onions, garlic and peppers , with olive oil in a heavy 8 qt. pot until translucent. Mash tomatoes with a wooden spoon until they become a pulp, then add with garlic parsley, basil, tomato sauce, salt, paprika, and wine to pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer gently for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The sauce should thicken slightly (sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated). Add seasonings to taste.


Prepare:
16 large raw prawns
16 clams
2 pounds firm-fleshed fish
2 dungeness crabs

Remove intestinal track from prawns, but leave the shell on until cooked. Scrub the claims under running water. Cut the firm-fleshed fish into serving pieces, and crack the pieces of crab.

Add crab to sauce and cook for 10 minutes, the add firm-fleshed fish cover and cook another 5 minutes, add the prawns, cover and cook another 5 minutes more.

Remove crab, crack and add to sauce, do the same with the prawns.

Serve with sour dough bread.

This soup is a favorite of the Ready family. It was a soup the family prepared and ate during Lent, as the family grew each family would pitch in to buy the fish for this delicious soup. It is really good the next day if there is any left over.
