1/2 C shortening
1 C sugar
2 Eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 C flour
1/4 tsp soda

Cherry filling
1 C sugar
1 C orange Juice
24 maraschino cherry's
2 Tlbs butter
3 Tlbs corn starch
1/2 C maraschino
cherry juice

Pre Heat 400

Cookies
mix shortening, sugar, and eggs thoroughly. Stir in vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and blend in. Chill dough. Roll 1/16 thickness on a floured surface. Cut into desired shape. Spread rounded tsp. of filling on each. Cover with top cookie and press edges together with floured tines of a fork.
Bake @ 400º about 8-10 minutes.

Cherry Filling
add sugar, orange juice, maraschino cherries, butter and cherry juice in sauce pan. Stir in corn starch bring to a boil stirring constantly. Chill
