1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg slightly beaten
2 cups pastry flour
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp Vanilla (or optional flavorings--maple, etc).
Variety: 1/2 cups nuts, raisins or coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, add sugar, egg, flour and flavoring and nuts. Form into round roll and chill in refrigerator. Slice when ready and bake in hot oven-400º for 5-8 minutes. Lots of wiggle room for variety: use nutmeg, cinnamon or omit nuts. Also you can color these with colors to match the seasons.
